Western Cape police say they are investigating two criminal charges against the former station commissioner of Goodwood police station, Siphiwo Hewana. These are inciting perjury and defeating the ends of justice.
Hewana was expelled today after a tribunal had found him guilty on six charges of serious misconduct.
He was at the centre of the controversy relating to the drunken driving arrest of former ANC Chief Whip Tony Yengeni last November. Police spokesperson Andre Traut says Yengeni's blood sample was found in Hewana's office.
Hewana, who has served 27 years in the police service, says he will appeal his expulsion at the Bargaining Council and take it as far as the Labour Court if need be.
