ANC President Jacob Zuma has arrived at the Constitutional Court in Johannesburg amidst tight security. Court proceedings involving him, his attorney Michael Hulley and French arms manufacturer Thint are due to get underway shortly.
Zuma, Hulley and Thint are asking for leave to appeal a decision by the Supreme Court of Appeals last year that paves the way for the NPA to use thousands of documents in the upcoming corruption trial that were acquired during raids by the Scorpions in 2005.
Zuma's legal team accused the Scorpions yesterday of failing to take into account the principles of legal professional privilege when they raided Hulley's offices in 2005. Advocate Kemp J Kemp says the warrants were too vague and did not describe the investigation. Lawyers for Thint also argued that the warrants used to execute the raids were over-broad and should be declared invalid.
