Friends, family members and colleagues of slain actor Shimmy Mofokeng gathered at the Orlando Communal Hall in Soweto today to pay their last respects.
Mofokeng was gunned down in what is believed to be a botched hijacking next to his home in Mulberton, south of Johannesburg on Monday. Speaker after speaker described Mofokeng as a man of peace. And his love for peace made him join the community policing forum with the aim of making everyone secure. It was the same type of violent crime he was fighting against that ended his life.
Shimmy Mofokeng shot to fame while featuring in several locally produced dramas like U Deliwe and Shout at the devil. His acting career blossomed in the early 80s where he played the role of a boxing trainer in the TV drama Mampodi which means Champion. The former teacher was also involved in different business ventures. His killers are still at large and the police say they are still busy with their investigations. Mofokeng is survived by his wife, seven children and eight siblings. He will be buried on Tuesday.
