A man was shot and killed during an armed robbery at McDonald's restaurant in Benoni

A 39 year-old man was shot and killed during an armed robbery at McDonald's restaurant in Benoni, police said today.

Police spokesperson Constable Joshua Dhladhla said three armed men entered the fast food restaurant at 8:30pm yesterday. "They held staff and customers at gunpoint. They fired several shots and demanded money from the workers. One of the shots fatally wounded the man who died on the scene."

The deceased cannot be named until all his relatives have been informed. Dhladhla said armed robbers fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. They left in a black Toyota Tazz.

No further injuries were reported. No arrests had been made. Murder and armed robbery dockets were opened by the police. - Sapa
