Abducted Chinese man rescued in Free State

March 07, 2008, 08:15

Police have found a Chinese businessman from Bloemfontein after he was kidnapped last night. A ransom of R600 000 was demanded from the wife, but this was later changed to R400 000.

The businessman was abducted in a car that drove through a road block between Marquard and Winburg. The police fired shots at the tyres of the vehicle, which then came to a stop. Three suspects then fled into the veld. They left the businessman inside the vehicle. He had a stab wound to the leg, and was admitted to hospital for treatment.

The public have been urged not to confront the missing suspects, but to contact the police instead.
