Mother still critical after Parktown shootings

March 06, 2008, 09:15

Sixteen-year-old Julian Lap junior is now off the ventilator in the trauma intensive care unit of the Milpark hospital in Johannesburg, the hospital said today. This followed a shooting at his family's home in Parktown North on Sunday. Lap junior was shot in the chest.

Spokesperson Amelda Swartz said Julian had a good night and he was showing progress. "We took him off the ventilator on Tuesday and he is doing well. His mother Marilyn Visser is still on a ventilator and remains critical."

Police spokesperson Thabang Motleleng said no arrests have been made but investigations are continuing.

Julian Lap senior, a prominent Johannesburg architect, was shot dead and his wife and son critically wounded on Sunday evening.

Intruders broke into the Lap's Parktown North home and opened fire, killing Julian Lap senior, 55. He was shot in the head and died at the scene.

Nothing was taken. - Sapa
