Free State students in court for 'intimidation'

UFS students were arrested for disrupting classes on the campus

March 05, 2008, 07:45

Twenty-eight Free State University (UFS) students who were arrested yesterday afternoon will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court. The students were arrested for allegedly intimidating other students wanting to attend classes.

Police spokesperson Sam Makhele says the students were released on warning last night on condition that they went to court today. They will be appearing for contravening a Bloemfontein High Court interdict that prohibits them from disrupting classes or holding illegal marches.

The class disruptions took place while students were waiting for answers regarding demands for the closure of Reitz residence, where four students had produced what has been described as a racist video.
