Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Firoz Cachalia, will meet taxi bosses over the attack on a woman wearing a miniskirt in downtown Johannesburg. It is alleged that the woman was stripped, paraded naked and sexually assaulted by taxi drivers.
The meeting will also be attended by representatives of women's rights organisations. The department's spokesperson, Dumisani Ngema, says the incident is a violation of human rights.
"We hoping that out of the meeting we would be able to produce a clear government attitude and the commitment from all stakeholders on plans to prevent similar incidences from occurring in the future.
The meeting will also deal with steps being taken to bring the perpetrators of this act to book.
