Domestic worker in court over toddler

January 07, 2008, 11:30

The 42-year-old domestic worker who allegedly took a Cape Town toddler last week appeared briefly in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate's Court in the city today.

The case was postponed to January 11 for a bail application.

The woman, Nokubona Jack, gave herself up to police in Langa on Saturday morning, and two-year-old Owam Ngqengqa was reunited with his mother unharmed.

According to police, Ngqengqa's mother left him in Jack's care when she went to work on Wednesday morning.

When she returned to her home, at the N2 Gateway project in Langa, that afternoon, the boy and the domestic worker were gone. Jack told the court on Monday she intended to apply for legal aid. - Sapa
