Counterfeit DVDs with a street value of R200 million rand have been discovered at OR Tambo airport. Police spokesperson Dennis Adriao says it's the largest such haul to be trafficked through a South African port of entry.
He says it was discovered during a routine inspection of the airport's cargo area. In addition to the counterfeit DVDs, a consignment of counterfeit DVD players, as well as cellphones and Dolce & Gabbana clothing was found.
The two consignments came from China, via Dubai, and were destined for Nigeria. Adriao says police believe that syndicates would have brought them back to South Africa via Nigeria.
