Three people have been arrested at Kimberley's main taxi rank in the Northern Cape for crimes ranging from assault to causing damage to property and theft. The arrests follow skirmishes between members of the Green Point Taxi Association and alleged illegal operators over the lucrative Diamond Pavilion Mall route this morning.
Members of the crime combating unit as well as traffic officers are currently at Kimberley's main taxi rank to monitor the situation.
Police spokesperson Sergio Kok says three people have been arrested, one for assault, and one for malicious damage to property and another for theft of motor vehicle's keys. “The police are assessing the situation and they will be there throughout the day to make sure everything goes smoothly. The crime combating unit together with the traffic department will be at the taxi rank ”.
