Three people are reported to have been seriously injured during a shooting incident at Warwick Avenue taxi rank in Durban.
Police spokesperson, Vincent Mdunge, says they believe the shooting is related to a taxi feud. Mdunge says police have been deployed to monitor the situation, and are investigating which associations are implicated. The shooting ensued at Warwick Avenue and subsequently three victims are confirmed to have been seriously injured. The victims were treated by paramedics at the scene and were later taken to hospital. Police are out in full force in the area.
Johannesburg Metro Police recently announced that they will maintain visible policing at taxi ranks as part of their zero-tolerance plans to combat crime and taxi related violence during the festive season. In the past two months, three people - including a taxi boss - have been killed in drive-by taxi shootings in the Metro.
Three others were shot and wounded during shootings in various taxi ranks, including Bree Street, Noord Street, Clearwater Mall and Meadowvale Shopping Centre. Johannesburg Metro Police Chief Chris Ngcobo said at some of the taxi ranks, members of the public were intimidated.
