Thousands are set to take to the streets of Ekurhuleni to march against gender based violence

November 24, 2007, 17:30

Thousands of people are set to take to the streets of Ekurhuleni in a march against gender based violence and child abuse.

This is on the eve of the 16 days of Activism Campaign for No violence Against Women and Children.

Various marches have been planned with the main event hosted in Bloemfontein. Campaigners for 16 days of Activism are hoping to change the mindsets of perpetrators, among them children.

Childline says 43% of sexual crimes reported to its hotline this year were committed by children. It says police officers are not always equipped to deal with victims.
