The South African Communist Party (SACP) has announced that a forensic investigation will be launched into the disappearance of the alleged R500 000 donation to the party by businessman Charles Modise.
This comes after SACP national treasurer Pumulo Masualle indicated that there was no evidence to suggest that the money was actually donated. This is despite the fact that Cosatu president Willie Madisha claims he did in fact receive the money and handed it over to SACP general-secretary Blade Nzimande.
Nzimande has repeatedly denied receiving the money. Madisha is expected to appear before a disciplinary committee for failing to disclose the alleged donation.
Modise also faces charges of fraud in relation to tender irregularities committed in the Northern Cape a few years ago. He is said to have irregularly won tenders worth over R35 million from the provincial department of Public Works and Transport, which was then headed by current ANC provincial chairperson John Block.
He was also charged with forgery and defeating the ends of justice.
