The reasons for First National Bank (FNB) aborting its anti-crime campaign recently could become clearer after a meeting between President Thabo Mbeki and senior executives of the First Rand Group in Pretoria this morning. First Rand is FNB's holding company.
In an earlier interview with the SABC, Mbeki said he didn't know the reason why the company needed to see him. He maintains that government has, over the past 13 years, allocated billions of rand in the police service in order to fight crime.
