Five people suspected of manufacturing counterfeit DVDs and CDs were arrested and equipment worth about R2 million was seized in Kempton Park yesterday, Gauteng police said.
Superintendent Eugene Opperman said the police organised crimes unit, metro police and representatives of the recording industry swooped on premises in Rigour Street near Kempton Park after an investigation.
"Expensive recording devices, tapes and CDs were seized from the premises to the value of R2 million," said Opperman.
Five suspects on the premises, including one woman, were taken into custody and will appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
They face charges of contravening the Copyright Act. Police investigations were continuing. - Sapa
