Business Against Crime says the business fraternity is not pulling its weight in the fight against crime. Annelise Rabie, the organisation's Western Cape managing director, has addressed business leaders in Cape Town about the recently released crime statistics.
It indicates that there has been 14% increase in drug related crimes while violent crimes decreased by 17% in the province. Mzwandile Petros, the provincial police commissioner, also attened the meeting. Rabie says a stronger partnership is needed in order to beat crime.
"My biggest concern is that the business community is still too apathetic with regard to the fight against crime, I think business has a strategic knowledge of business practices that we can bring to this partnership. I would like to see a closer relationship between the Afrikaanse Handels Istitute, the chamber of commerce at provincial and local government levels working closer with the SAPS, I think that's key."
