The Road Accident Fund (RAF) has launched an application against insurance company, Alexander Forbes, to recover R38 million in provisional payments. "The provisional payments amounted to R56 834 268.38 and were made by the then finance executive of the Road Accident Fund, Duncan Anderson, who is currently facing disciplinary action," Saths Cooper, the RAF chairperson, said in a statement today.
"The RAF seeks to recover the balance of such payments totalling R38 563 908.46.
"The payments were made to Alexander Forbes in lieu of invoices by service providers, medical, hospital service providers," Cooper said.
The fund sought in the application to have the agreement relating to the provisional payment declared outside the scope of the 1996 RAF Act.
The application was made against Alexander Forbes Compensation Technologies and associated company Alexander Forbes Accident Compensation Technologies.
The payments to the two companies were made between April and August 2002.
The two companies have until next Friday to notify the RAF's attorneys of their intention to oppose the proceedings. - Sapa
