A man and his wife will appear in court next month for allegedly defrauding the Road Accident Fund (RAF)of R1,7 million. The RAF says the couple are facing more than 50 charges relating to fraudulent claims.
They appeared in the Potchefstroom Magistrate's Court and were released on R5 000 bail each earlier this week. They will appear in court again on May 12.
The RAF alleged that the couple operated in a syndicate headed by Marius Potgieter, currently serving 12 years in prison for fraud against the fund.
"The continued efforts of our staff in stamping out fraud and corruption are central in bringing the claimant back to the centre of all operations of the organisation. We are really very proud and appreciate the work done by them," said Thokozani Magwaza, acting RAF chief executive.
