Zuma is trying to buy time: Ndou

Political analyst Levy Ndou says President Jacob Zuma is trying to buy time in order to delay the appointment of the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) so that charges against him can be resolved at a later stage

This comes after Zuma filed papers to appeal December 2017’s ruling by the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Thursday, which gave Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa powers to appoint the head of the National Prosecuting Authority instead of the sitting president.

The court ruled that the president is conflicted because of the corruption charges against him, and therefore cannot make such an appointment.

“I feel that it is unnecessary for him to appeal because as the President of South Africa and Ramaphosa being the Deputy, one would assume that they consult each other especially when certain decisions are taken unless if the relationship between the two is very sour.”
