President Jacob Zuma has reiterated government’s commitment to support struggling State-Owned Enterprises such as Eskom, the SAA and the SABC. The President was speaking at the launch of the Invest SA One Stop Shop in Durban.
He emphasised that these SOEs needed to be turned around and become self-sustainable.
“Some institutions that have also been draining government resources such as some SOEs are required to achieve turnaround. Some key milestones included the recapitalisation of SAA and the appointment of its new board and permanent CEO. Other SOEs are also being supported. Work is at (an) advanced (stage) to find leadership for Eskom. There is a new board at the SABC which is tasked with ensuring the financial viability of the public broadcaster.”
