Zuma appeals ruling on NDPP appointment

Reading Time: < 1 minute

President Jacob Zuma has filed papers to appeal against the Pretoria High Court ruling that he is too conflicted to appoint the National Director of Public Prosecutions.

The court ruled that the president should recuse himself, and that Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa should be the one to make the appointment.

The court ordered the Director of Public Prosecutions to vacate his position as his appointment was declared invalid. The NPA is also appealing the decision.

The judgment was handed down early in December by a full bench of the court, read out by Judge President Dunstan Mlambo. The court had also ordered that the president pay legal costs.
