Hundreds of senior citizens have packed a large marquee at Savannah Park in Chatsworth south of Durban for an early Christmas celebration.
President Jacob Zuma is expected to address the gathering on Sunday afternoon. eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede has joined the senior citizens.
Pensioners Elaine Ngcobo and Rosemary Majola say they are happy that there is a day dedicated to them during the holiday period.
They say often they look after their grandchildren and do not have time to enjoy themselves.
They also had messages for President Zuma to increase job opportunities for the youth and to decrease crime.
