Zimbabwe eyes economic revival amid celebrations

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Zimbabweans are continuing to celebrate the fall of a President who liberated the country, but at the same time ran the country to the ground.

President Robert Mugabe officially resigned from office on Tuesday following calls by Zimbabweans and political parties for his removal.

Minister of Home Affairs Obert Mpofu says they hope to have a younger President who can steer the country in the right direction and also revive its economy.

Mpofu was one of the members of parliament leading the process to have Mugabe removed from office.

After a new President is sworn in, elections should be held in the next three months.

The country was expected to stage a massive shutdown on Wednesday, but that is now off the cards.
