Zimbabwe police assure of violence-free elections

Police in Zimbabwe have assured all citizens that they are ready for any eventualities during Monday’s national elections.

This comes after speculation of yet another violent election in that country.

Police spokesperson, Charity Charamba, says more than 70 000 officers will be deployed to areas across the country.

She says the more than 11 000 polling stations will see police keeping a close watch to ensure that the safety of Zimbabwe voters.

“We have also deployed our police officers to strategic positions, so that they can also respond. We have deployed them on hotspots where we feel the might be problem, so we want the people to feel free – safe and secure. Police officers are firm on the ground and we want to assure everyone including visitors like you that police officers are everywhere. They are ready to assist and provide security.”
