Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has released the preliminary election results, announcing outcomes for only seven out of 210 constituencies.

According to national assembly results, the incumbent Zanu-PF is so far leading with six seats and the MDC Alliance with only one.

The Commission says results for the presidential candidate will only be released once counting is complete in over 10 000 polling stations across the country.

ZEC Chairperson Priscilla Chigumba says:”Presidential results will only be announced once the commission has completed the collation of all presidential polling station returns in the 10985 polling stations.”

“I would like to appeal you to bear with us for the simple reason that these are harmonised elections. We have three tiers of elections, we have three methods of transmission of results and that we are doing the best we can and we will try to speed up the process.”

Zimbabwe’s Electoral Commission says it’s under no political pressure as it releases the first preliminary results of the 2018 polls.

The Commission says cases where any parties or candidates have broken electoral laws are referred to the police for investigation.
