Zille uncontested for DA leadership

DA leader Helen Zille will stand uncontested at the party’s Federal Congress to be held next weekend.
The DA says there’s nothing sinister about this. According the party’s spokesperson, Mmusi Maimane, no one else put up their name for the party leader position.
The main contest is expected to be for the three positions of Deputy Federal Chairperson. Nine candidates are in the running – among them national spokesperson, Mmusi Maimane and former ID parliamentarian, Joe McGluwa.
Wilmot James, the current Federal Chair was again nominated for the same position. He will face off against controversial MP Masizole Mnqasela.
Last year, Mnqasela accused Zille of running the party like a spaza shop. The federal congress is the party’s highest decision-making body.
Elections are conducted by secret ballot.
