Reading Time: < 1 minute

Zambia became the second team to score high at the 2019 women’s COSAFA Cup when they thrashed Mauritius 15-0 in a Group B opener at the Wolfson Stadium, in Port Elizabeth on Thursday.

Player of the match Rachel Nachula netted eight of the 15 goals, Grace Chanda grabbed two, Hellen Chanda, Rhoda Chilishe, Mary Mwakapila and Teresa Chewe contributed the other goals.

Mauritius’ Martina Jerome scored an own goal.

Zambia coach Beauty Mwamba says the result is a reflection of how they prepared for the tournament.

Mwamba is expecting the competition to intensify when they meet Namibia on Saturday morning saying the Copper Queens are going to have to work harder than they did in the opener.

Mauritius coach Kofi Kawata says he expected his team to lose after missing last year’s edition due to inactivity in their country.

Kawata says he told his players just play football and not worry about results.

The Mauritian speaking through an interpreter added that competition cannot get any worse for his players going further in the tournament.
