Reading Time: 2 minutes

Zambia finally ended their winless streak against Zimbabwe in the COSAFA Cup last night when they beat their much improved neighbours 4-2 on penalties in a semi-final match played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Wednesday night.

The game had finished goalless at full-time with the second string Chipolopolo side having done well to hold their own against an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) bound Zim Warriors squad.

Zambia will meet Botswana in the final on Saturday after the Zebras had beaten Lesotho 2-1 in the first semi-final. Zambia caretaker coach Aggrey Chiyangi expands on the tactics he employed in this game to to contain the Warriors.

For Zimbabwe, it was another normal preparation game for the AFCON and it was easily noticeable that the AFCON bound players tried by all means to to avoid injuries. Assistant coach Rahman Gumbo says they had a two pronged approach coming to this tournament.

Whilst other AFCON bound COSAFA members like South Africa and Namibia brought second string sides and Angola and Madagascar opted not to come to the tournament, Zimbabwe brought all their stars.

And they were rewarded with two competitive matches that prepared them for the tournament that takes place in Egypt from June 21 until July 19. – Report by Velile Mnyandu
