Hundreds of people gathered at the Kharwastan Community Hall in Chatsworth south of Durban to celebrate the birthday centenaries of struggle stalwarts, former President Nelson Mandela and Albertina Sisulu.

Children in the area were invited to share in the festivities. Mandela and Sisulu would both have turned 100 this year.

Former ANC government minister, Mac Maharaj urged the youth to follow the example of Sisulu and Mandela, and make significant contributions towards improving lives.

Maharaj says Sisulu and Mandela fought tirelessly to protect the rights of children.
