Youth creativity to be celebrated through music

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The festival celebrates the creative spirit of the youth, remembers their past, celebrates their hopes and acknowledges their importance through music, dance, theatre & laughter.

Aubrey Sekhabi, CEO of the Youth Expression Festival, says that the festival is aimed at everyone.

“This is a platform for young people to express themselves, to share their experiences through dance, music and poetry.”

Sekhabi says that it is vital not to forget about the past and through this festival they commemorate the protest where hundreds of students were killed and inevitably resulted in a wave of protests across South Africa known as the Soweto uprising of 1976.

“The Youth Expression Festival is important because we need to remember the past so that we do not forget what happened 39 years ago – so that young people can understand that where we are today is the result of committed youth who knew that they had to fight for this freedom.”
