Reading Time: 2 minutes

A brave young girl from the occupied West Bank in Palestine is currently in South Africa spreading her message of the horrors of living under occupation.

Twelve-year-old Janna Jihad has been labelled the world’s youngest journalist and is currently touring SA with arts movement ‘2 Suns Shamsaan’ to promote her documentary film titled: ‘Radiance of Resistance’.

It was screened for the first time on Saturday and tells the story of nine-year-old Janna and 14-year-old Ahed Tamimi, and what it is like living under military occupation in Nabi Saleh, Palestine.

Janna says the message she wanted to portray with her film is that even children in Palestine deserve a normal childhood.

“Lots of things were happening and the world didn’t know our feelings as children living under occupation. So I wanted to cover everything that happens with us as Palestinian children and to just send our message and speak for all the children who are suffering daily.  For example in Gaza right now there are a lot of bombings, lots of rockets at the moment. Four hundred prisoners are right now in jail. The message that we have to send to the world is that we are children we have to live like any other child around the world. We just want to live in peace. We just want to live in freedom, to know what does freedom mean,” says Janna.
