Highveld Lions all-rounder, Wiaan Mulder, looks set to make his Proteas debut in the second Test against Sri Lanka starting in Port Elizabeth on Thursday.

The team will show a couple of changes to the one that lost the first test in Durban.

Vernon Philander’s injury has created a vacancy in the side, and Mulder, the only uncapped player in the squad seems to be the obvious choice.

Proteas Captain, Faf du Plessis, rates the 21-year-old Mulder highly.

“The nice thing that Wiaan offers here he is actually an extra batsman. So, he is just as any other batter. I see Wiaan playing role for Proteas moving forward as a batting all-rounder in test cricket, batting at six or seven and bowling extra 10 overs. That is what you need on the field. We have spoken about him in One-Day Internationals as well,” says du Plessis.
