For the past year, a diverse group of researchers and thought leaders have participated in the “Indlulamithi South Africa Scenarios 2030 project” – which seeks to stimulate a national conversation about the future of South Africa.

It investigated, among others, issues relating to social cohesion in the country, and is expected to provide feedback on Thursday.

One of those who took participated in the project is political commentator, Dr Somadoda Fikeni:

“We need to have an honest and difficult conversation about where we are, in order to make sure we have a firm foundation for a future we desire to have. In so doing we will have to be less obsessed with the current issues, and less obsessed even with the elections in 2019, because if we focus so heavily on the here and now we will lose the focus on the big picture in what in essence is our national interest.”
