Western Cape Premier Alan Winde has welcomed the shift to lockdown Level 3 from June 1.
The announcement was made by President Cyril Ramaphosa in a live address to the nation on Sunday night.

Winde has also welcomed the classification of hotspot areas in other parts of the country, including Cape Town.
The Western Cape has the highest infection rate countrywide, with close to 7 000 active cases and 300 fatalities.
Winde has appealed to residents to remain vigilant by practising good hygiene, maintaining social distancing and wearing masks.
More than 120 000 COVID-19 tests have been conducted across the Western Cape thus far.

President Ramaphosa has confirmed that 429 people have now died from COVID-19 and that the number of infections have risen to 22 583.
The country now has 11 100 COVID-19 recoveries.
