Western Cape budget speech prioritises drought

Western Cape Agriculture and Economic Opportunities Minister, Alan Winde says his R834 million budget speech focuses on mitigating the effects of the crippling drought and disease in the industry.

The agricultural sector in the province which employs over 300 000 people has been battling with among others, water shortages and bird flu.

Winde is delivering his budget speech in the Provincial Legislature in Cape Town.

“Our budget now is how do we mitigate risk making sure we got the best in place to do the correct testing to help with that ecosystem of agriculture. At the same time enough money given to land reform and research and supporting climate change the industry in general, getting our products into market and if course food security that underlines the need if any nation to make sure you have food security.”
