We respect right of parties to lodge complaints: ANC

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The ANC says it respects the rights of all other political parties and hopes that the IEC will attend to those parties’ complaints.

Twenty seven smaller political parties lodged objections with the IEC over alleged voting irregularities in the 2019 Elections. The parties are demanding an independent audit of the results.

They have threatened to take the matter to the Electoral Court if the IEC does not respond to their objections by 11am.

ANC NEC member Lindiwe Zulu says, “It is very unfortunate that we are going to end up being delayed, but we have confidence in the IEC responding.”

“We also have confidence in the court processes because I think that the courts themselves are ready for any eventuality, ready for anything because when you’re going to have elections, you bound to come across such challenges.”

“As the ANC, we say to them let them go through those structures. We’re still comfortable as the ANC that they will get the necessary attention from the relevant institutions.”
