‘We need to step up our game and think wisely and not depend on government’

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Itumeleng Oliphant from the Northern Cape moved to Johannesburg in 2014 after his mother passed away. He lives on the streets and makes a living guarding people’s cars. He feels ignored by the government for the past 25 years.

Oliphant first arrived in the City of Gold to find employment, only to find that that job opportunity he was offered was by a crook.

He lives around Hillbrow and survives by being a car guard.

Oliphant feels that for the 25 years of democracy the ruling African National Congress (ANC) is not doing much for him, ‘but they are doing it for their own pockets.’
