‘ We are a nation that can work together’

Reading Time: < 1 minute

It is easy to become disgruntled and despondent about the many social ills plaguing the country. Poor health and education, large scale corruption and crippling levels of crime are just some of the reasons that could lead to a negative outlook. But for 62-year-old Willem Havenga, there is much more sunshine than rain.

This homeless man makes handcrafted jewellery that he sells in the Company Gardens in Cape Town.

Havenga has been living in Cape Town for a couple of years. This after he decided to move to Cape Town, to start somewhere else, after an accident he had whilst working in the mining industry.

Havenga suggests as a country we should take care of our democracy.

” I think the yellow one…although there is still a lot of hiccups, problems that need to be solved…but we are a nation that can work together. I strongly believe there is a bright future for South Africa. My wish and my prayer for South Africa is that God will bless us with an open mind and to follow what is right.”
