WBF president sounds bell warning

Reading Time: < 1 minute

World Boxing Federation (WBF) president Howard Goldberg is proud that yet another South African boxer in WBF featherweight female champion Nozipho Bell is going to fight for the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) title.

Bell, who won the WBF belt when she outpointed Unathi Myekeni in Port Elizabeth three months ago, is scheduled to fight against unbeaten Terri Harper from the United Kingdom in a vacant IBO junior-lightweight title at the Magna Centre in Rotherham, England, on Friday, 19 July.

Though he is unhappy with Bell’s decision to fight for an IBO title before defending her WBF crown, Goldberg says that he understands that money is an issue thus the Walmer lass decided to square up against Harper.

The Cape Town-based Goldberg, who is a former fight judge and referee, has said that Bell might lose heavily in as far as the WBF title is concerned if she loses to Harper. – Report by Monwabisi Jimlongo
