The Alfred Nzo District Municipality in the Eastern Cape says it has opened the water supply from the Ntabankulu water treatment works.

This comes after the water supply was closed over a week ago following suspicions of vandalism and poisoning of a bulk pipe.

Boreholes had been used to supply water to Ntabankulu and surrounding areas.

Municipal spokesperson, Lubabalo Majenge, says the treatment plants had to be closed while repairs were being conducted.

“Treatment works had remained closed as the municipality was busy repairing the vandalised pipe as to ensure there is a sufficient water inflow from the treatment plant. The municipality spent R160 000 from these repairs,” adds Majenge.
