Water interruptions hit parts of Joburg

The current water interruptions in Johannesburg have affected several hospitals and schools around the city.

Emergency cases at Helen Joseph and Rahima Moosa hospitals have had to be diverted.

Some schools were also forced to send learners home due to the water shortages.

It’s believed this is as a result of the power problem which affected Rand Water’s pumping station in Vereeniging south of Johannesburg at the weekend.

Gauteng Health Department spokesperson Lesemang Matuka says, “As a department we saw it fit to divert emergency cases to nearby facilities because the running water is paramount in infection control and surgical performance. We didn’t want to take any chances for the sake of our patient safety.”
