The Western Cape Ministry of Agriculture says there have been no new cases of avian influenza reported in the province.

There are currently 68 confirmed cases of the infection in the region.

Two-point-six million layer chickens, over 121 000 broiler chickens and nearly 33 000 ducks had to be culled in the province earlier this year due to the bird flu.

Provincial Minister of Agriculture, Alan Winde, says there has been a steady decline of new infections since the middle of October.

Winde says a number of farms have been placed under quarantine, but this was lifted 42 days after an effective disinfection.
