Several roads surrounding the Scottsdene Housing Office in Kraaifontein outside Cape Town have been closed to traffic due to violent protests in the area. Residents are demanding houses. Earlier this week violent protests broke out due to the illegal occupation of newly completed houses in the area.

Cape Town Traffic spokesperson, Richard Coleman, says protestors are pelting motorists with stones and burning rubble in the roadway.

“The surrounding roads are closed in that area due to stone throwing and rubble that has been set alight. We ask motorists just to be cautious in that area. Where officers are on duty, they will divert traffic where necessary.”
