Reading Time: < 1 minute

Tygerberg Hospital says quadruplets who were born over the weekend are doing well, with three already breathing on their own. The four, two of which are boys were born to a 22-year-old Khayelitsha mother, Inga Mafenuka.

Obstetricians and paediatricians who treated the mother and babies say they were grateful for what they say is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Statistics show there’s a one in 600-thousand chance of a natural quadruplet conception.

Bubele, Bunono, Buchule and Bungcwele were delivered by Ceasarian Section at 29 weeks.

The young mother, Inga says she still can’t believe it’s real, but says she hopes to give her babies the best possible life.
