An 8-month-old baby, who was allegedly raped over the weekend in Bonteheuwel in Cape Town, is recuperating at home.

City of Cape Town Ward Councillor, Angus McKenzie says no one has been arrested yet.

“She is home and she is recuperating with family. The baby was left with family on Saturday morning while the mother went to work. I just want to very quickly say before people assume anything; the family had nothing to do with this situation.

“But it is extremely gruesome, extremely traumatic and I think for the sake of the child and also the investigation where it stands, it’s probably not advisable to go much deeper into what has happened,” McKenzie adds.

Western Cape police say they are investigating the rape. Spokesperson FC Van Wyk has confirmed that police detectives are following a number of leads. He says the rape incident was reported during the past weekend.
