Vote counting in most provinces complete

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has announced that vote counting in is complete in most provinces. The ZEC was briefing the media at the Harare International Conference Centre.

The ZEC will start announcing official results at 15:00 Tuesday afternoon.

Final results are due on Saturday.

ZEC chair Priscilla Chigumba says  no rigging or cheating has been detected in the country’s first election since the end of former president Robert Mugabe’s 37-year-rule.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa of the governing Zanu-PF party and Nelson Chamisa of the MDC alliance are contesting the top post.   Zimbabweans on Monday voted for 210 members of parliament and more than 9000 councillors. –Additional reporting Reuters
