Vakhegula Vakhegula delivered on their promise to avenge Banyana Banyana when they thrashed France 10-0 in an international friendly in St Etienne on Wednesday.

The South African Elderly women’s side led 4-0 at halftime in a game that played 20 minutes per half.

The game is a culmination of their trip to France for the Fifa Women’s World Cup activities that started last week Tuesday.

After Banyana’s elimination from their maiden world showpiece the grannies set in motion a mission to at least defeat the France grannies.

Vakhegula Captain Kokwani Millicent Thuketani was happy they fulfilled a promise.

“We are Vakhegula, the most famous in God’s world. I’m so happy we beat the French Grannies 10-0, they even denied our 11th.”

Koko Mavis Selolo from Moetagare, Ga-Matlala, scored a hat-trick – a feat the old lady is very proud of.

The two countries were playing for a trophy that Koko Selolo cannot wait to bring home, especially to Limpopo MEC for Sport Arts and Culture Thandi Moraka.

“We played France and thrashed them 10-0. I scored three. W showed them flames. MEC, please expect us. We are bringing you what deserve from France.”

Meanwhile, the man who organised the match, Benjamin Misery said he was emotional when the match finally kicked off.

Misery adds that he is proud of the two elderly groups saying they got support from a lot of people.

Beka Ntsanwisi founder of the team was also honoured with two accolades for her contribution to the welfare of the elderly.

Vakhegula are expected to land at the OR Tambo International Airport on Monday morning. – Report by Lethabo Kganyago
