Novelist, academic and intellectual Archibald Campbell Jordan has been honoured at the second annual Pioneers of Xhosa Literature public lecture at the University of the Western Cape (UWC).

The lecture series is aimed at igniting passion for indigenous literature.

The Xhosa department at UWC and the National Library of South Africa co-hosted the event.

Emeritus Professor Wandile Kuse delivered the lecture on the role Jordan played in developing Xhosa literature.

“People like AC Jordan were responding to certain context in the history and evolution of mankind at a time when blacks, Africans were belittled. Here, you have people who have the capacity of imagination and articulation (of) the universe of human experiences. This is an achievement a good thing to have happened.”
