Universities will not accept late applications

Universities say they will not accept any last minute applications when they open for the new academic year.  President Jacob Zuma announced last month that government will subsidise free higher education for poor and working class students.

In his New Year message Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema urged all qualifying students to turn up at tertiary institutions of their choice this year. Universities stopped walk-in registrations following the death of one person during a stampede at the University of Johannesburg in 2012.

Universities South Africa’s Ahmed Bawa says students that have applied and qualify for free education should submit their details online to the Central Application Clearing House.

“ If students have not applied to university, what they should do is supply details to Cach site and the department will ensure students are placed depending on whether spaces are available or not and the cach system works for university at tvet college sector.” Click below for more on the story:
